BIOGRAPHY

Defined by the press as "...a sublime artist and an excellent performer…" (José Luís López, Seville, Spain), guitarist Alen Garagic has earned a reputation for performing a wide range of repertoire with an absolute commitment to communicating the essence of the music at its most profound level.

Journey Through the Strings

Alen's musical odyssey began with a resounding triumph, winning the "Guerrero" International Guitar Competition in Madrid in 2004 at the age of 24. This victory launched him into a world of vibrant performances at illustrious music festivals, such as:
- "José Tomas" International Guitar Festival in Petrer, Spain
- Guitars of the World in Buenos Aires, Argentina
- International Music Festival in Toledo, Spain
- Tampere International Guitar Festival in Finland
- Daejeon International Guitar Festival in Korea

A Tapestry of Sounds

Alen's artistry transcends the concert hall. On intimate club stages, he weaves a rich tapestry of sounds, blending jazz, flamenco, Bach's sonatas, and traditional Balkan melodies. As a passionate chamber musician, he regularly collaborates with guitarist Denis Omerovic in the East-West Strings Project. Since 2018, Alen has delved deeply into Paco de Lucia’s flamenco, continuously exploring and performing this evocative genre.

Sonic Sculptor and Innovator

In addition to his performances, Alen shapes the musical landscape as a recording producer since 2012 and the visionary owner of Dyvia Records, a Slovenian music label founded in 2014. His latest creation, the CD "Departure," was brought to life in Barcelona, Spain. Alen's innovative spirit also led him to direct Guitar Salon Vadya in Slovenia since 2019, a hub for guitar excellence.

Conquering the Inner Stage

Throughout his career, Alen has faced the specters of performance anxiety and stage fright. Over 18 years, he has mastered various techniques to conquer these challenges, including the Alexander technique, mindfulness meditation, yoga, mantras, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), and Matrix Reimprinting. In 2016, he authored a thesis, “EFT as a Tool for Managing Stage Fright and Performance Anxiety Among Musicians,” sharing his journey and solutions. Alen's program, "Dealing with Performance Anxiety," has since inspired many students and teachers.

Musical Pilgrimage

Alen's voyage into music began at 13 at the Secondary School of Music in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with his first solo recital at 14. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Guitar Performance in 2001 from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Netherlands, studying under Professor Zoran Dukic. His quest for mastery took him to ESMUC in Barcelona, where he studied Guitar Performance and Chamber Music with Professors Alex Garrobe and Fernando Rodriguez. Further refining his craft, Alen studied with Professor Franz Halasz at the Hochschule für Musik in Nuremberg, Germany, earning the “Meisterklasse Diplom” in 2006. His academic journey culminated with a Master's Degree in Music Education in Ljubljana, Slovenia, under Professor Tomaz Rajteric in 2016.
